There are two things that a gamer needs to enjoy their gaming session: good graphics and speed. Now no matter how many extra graphic cards or RAM you attach to your normal PC, it can never be completely satisfying. In this regard, the MSI GP72 Leopard Pro 17.3″ gamer notebook is easily the perfect gaming notebook available in the market.

Design

The chassis of this model comprises of a plastic shell, while the keyboard cover is made of aluminum. Its width is 41.9 cm, while the depth is 28.7 cm and the thickness is 3.3 cm. The batteries are built in and non-removable but can be changed if you’re planning on traveling. The left side of the laptop houses a security slot, two USB 3.0 ports and one USB Type-C port, one HDMI 1.4 port and display port, and two audio jacks (one for microphone and the other for headphones). The right side has a DVD writer, one USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader and a power jack.

Above the keyboard, there are buttons for eject, display on and off, airplane mode, cooler boost, Wi-Fi, G panel and power.

Features

The MSI GP72 Leopard Pro houses the latest 6th Generation Intel Core i7 processor. For online games lovers, this laptop is perfect as it has PCIe 3.0 x4 bandwidth utilizing NVMe technology on a single M.2 SSD which loads games in seconds where other laptops may take minutes. It also offers 8GB DDR3 RAM that is upgradeable up to 16GB since the laptop supports not one but two 8 GB sticks. It also supports a 1TB SATA hard drive with 7200RPM.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphic card offers next-generation performance for gamers who like fast and problem-free gameplay, even at the highest resolution settings. A 17-inch full-HD LCD IPS display is also supported by this notebook, which is one of the biggest displays found in gaming laptops within this price range.

The Nahimic Virtual Surround Sound is one of the best features of this laptop as it is designed to work with every type of audio and stereo equipment.

Performance

Since the chassis is comprised of plastic and the keyboard cover is made of aluminum, the body is both light and strong. Furthermore, the latest i7 processors use less power and provide better performance than its predecessors.

The Optimus technology provided by Nvidia allows the MSI GP72 Leopard Pro to dynamically switch between the graphics unit provided by the processor and the dedicated GeForce GPU. The HD Graphics 5600 is designed to accommodate everyday tasks, while the GTX 960M is activated when the user is using 3D applications or games. The sound system is amazing and specially designed to support 3D games, allowing the user to hear the faintest sounds clearly.

The display offers anti-reflective coating which reduces glare in the screen, and the color reproduction is remarkable. Overall, this screen fulfills all basic requirements.

However, the keyboard is not backlit, making the laptop hard to use in areas with dim lighting. The battery life of the notebook is also not sufficient to support long gaming sessions.
