Corsair Gaming K95 RGB
One of the coolest things about the Corsair Gaming K95 is something that might not strike you as useful right away. This keyboard comes with multi-color, per-key binding. I can choose from a sprawling assortment of colors on a wide spectrum and assign each different individual key. While this definitely makes my Corsair K95 RGB stand out visually among other gaming keyboards that my friends have, it also allows me to gain a better understanding of which key I am pressing. If you don’t want to read any further than this is definitely the best gaming keyboard 2019 from our list.
Best keyboard for gaming
On top of virtually limitless color customization options, the Corsair K95 is a tactile keyboard made up of 100 percent Cherry MX Red key switches. These key switches are great because they are perfectly spaced out with wide actuation. The linear and smooth key response is tactile, audible and clear. The pressing action, though mechanical, is smooth and flawless and feels totally natural.
The Corsair K95 features 18 G-keys that I can assign specific macros to in a dedicated location to the left of my WASD hand. If that wasn’t more than enough reason to assign macros, the Corsair Gaming K95 RGB is also able to allow me to set up any key on the entire keyboard to have macros. It features control panel software that makes setting them up simple and effortless.
The Corsair K95 even comes with a strikingly beautiful and dazzling light show option. This keyboard features fluid, swift and fantastically visual RBG animation abilities. It uses a Panasonic display controller that allows me to choose between a cascading, waving or pulsing line of colors in any scheme or palette that I choose.
Finally, the Corsair K95 has really thought of everything. The Corsair Gaming keyboard features dedicated multimedia keys that are simple to access and are found resting overtop of the number pad on the right-hand side of the keyboard. Whenever I watch movies, TV or listen to music, I can control the volume of the audio.
- 100 percent Cherry MX key switches; tactile and audible
- 18 G-keys for macro assignment
- Ability to assign any macros to any key on the keyboard
- Cascading, pulsing or waving RBG animation using Panasonic remote
- Multimedia keys for playing, pausing, audio volume and skipping tracks of music
- Unique backlight customization; assign a different color to each key, perfect for identifying where certain key binds are located
- Wide actuation between keys
- Price. The Corsair K95 is definitely one of the more expensive gaming keyboards that I will be reviewing, but it is more than worth it.
SteelSeries Apex M800
The SteelSeries Apex M800 Gaming Keyboard has been built with speed in mind. This keyboard features fast reacting switches that instantly work without any sort of lag. The low profile design is built in such a way that it cuts down on the travel distance of my fingers for quicker reaction times. The keyboard is built at an exceptionally low angle that is ergonomic and comfortable. The SteelSeries Apex M800 also includes dual processors that I will get to in just a moment.
Better than the Razer Blackwidow for PC gaming?
The SteelSeries M800 also provides an incredible number of ways for me to customize it. I can create advanced macros all across the keyboard and choose custom lighting schemes that make my Apex M800 truly unique to only me. This keyboard features a centered LED and clear switch house that provides me with new keys in which I can light up in any number of the 16.8 million colors. It also features 8 unique brightness levels that I can adjust to personalize my keyboard in different light settings.
Impressively enough, the SteelSeries Apex M800 comes with its very own processors! Now, my computer’s processor is completely dedicated to the game that I am currently playing to make it run just that much more smoothly and efficiently. This dedicated processor works to only process my key presses. Gone are the days of lag that can make or break a match. Because of these processors, I also don’t have to worry about ghosting. The SteelSeries Apex M800 comes with N-Key rollover that allows for an astounding 256 key presses all at once with no issues should it come to that.
With the SteelSeries Apex M800 comes a unique cable management routing portion that goes directly underneath the keyboard. This is an incredibly useful and thoughtful feature, as oftentimes keyboard, headset, and mouse cables like to intertwine at the most inconvenient of times.
Last but not least, the SteelSeries Apex M800 comes with dedicated quick access keys for macros. There are six of these in total and they are located on the left of the keyboard. This makes my already-active left hand on the WASD keys be able to swiftly and easily glide over to the quick access keys seamlessly so that I never miss a beat. The keyboard was also compared to the K70 RGB and HyperX Alloy Elite at CES 2019 and we think this is the best mechanical keyboard around even when it’s sat next to the Razer Huntsman Elite or Logitech G513.
- 6 easy access macro keys
- 8 unique brightness levels
- Ability to program macros onto every key of the keyboard
- Cable management under the keyboard
- Custom lighting schemes with over 16.8 billion color choices
- Dual processors dedicated solely to the keyboard functions

- The SteelSeries Apex M800 is the most expensive in our mechanical keyboards roundup, but did you notice all of those incredible features? With its unique cable management, 16.8 billion color choices, 8 brightness levels, dual processors, absolutely no lag and nearly limitless macro configurations, this is definitely, by far, the best performing gaming keyboard for the money.
Razer Ornata Chroma
The Razer Ornata Chroma Keyboard features a really impressive way to completely customize the way that it looks. The Razer Ornata features a full spectrum of 16.8 million customizable colors for me to choose from. I can opt for a single color to take over my entire keyboard, or I can choose a number of different ones for a rainbow effect or any combination in between.
One of the most memorable aspects of the Razer Ornata Chroma is the inter-device synchronization capabilities. This keyboard allows me to pick out either a single color or a spectrum of colors to light up my keyboard, as mentioned before. Whatever I choose to light my keyboard up with, I can sync it up with all of my other Razer Chroma devices for a sleek, coordinated and stylish look.
On top of the spectacular visual effects, the Razer Ornata features a 10-key rollover mechanism. I can actually perform up to 10 different actions or spells at the exact same time which has really made me more efficient. Thanks to the anti-ghosting technology in the Razer Ornata Chroma Keyboard, I truly feel as if I have gained a remarkable competitive edge.
The Razer Ornata Chroma Keyboard also features a combination of the comfortable, soft-cushioned touch that comes with a membrane dome with the audible, tactile, crisp feeling of mechanical keys to ensure comfortable, yet swift and precise keyboard actions. These keys are also mid-height, perfect for faster actuation.
Finally, I want to mention how utterly comfortable the Razer Ornata Chroma Keyboard is. The Razer Ornata Chroma Keyboard has taken into account the long hours that we gamers spend with our hands all but glued to our keyboard and mouse. Das Keyboard 4 DASK4MKPROSIL
While any mechanical key is better than a standard membrane keyboard when it comes to gaming, the Das Keyboard 4 DASK4MKPROSIL features Cherry MX Brown key switches that are as well made, as they are beautiful to look at. These Cherry MX Brown key switches are made with golden contacts and the keys feature a soft, tactile bump approximately halfway through each key press. They call this Soft Pressure Point Technology, and it makes the mechanical keyboard give off less of a clicky sound while still retaining the tactile feel.
Best budget gaming keyboard
The Das Keyboard 4 DASK4MKPROSIL has seamlessly integrated a dedicated media control section. I can adjust the volume of my music, movies, or Skype calls with just the click of a button. I can also press mute, pause, play and skip backward on my songs or move forward.
Something that I know is important to a lot of us who game on our PCs is the ability to access a USB port on our keyboards. It shaves time off of having to reach over and find the hubs that are on our computers themselves. Not only does the Das Keyboard 4 come with a USB port, but this port is also a USB 3.0 port.
Best keyboard switches for gaming
With the DAS DASK4MKPROSIL, no stone has gone unturned when it comes to the design. While this keyboard does not feature an abundance of lights to choose from as many others do, it has been designed beautifully in its own right. It has a sleek, anodized aluminum top panel, a magnetically attached ruler and footbar, a resonance-free bottom enclosure that hugs tight to the desk and is finished off with an aluminum bottom label that has been laser engraved to give it a beautiful finishing touch.
Speaking of the design of the keyboard, the Das Keyboard 4 DASK4MKPROSIL features unique laser etched key inscriptions. This keyboard comes with such inscriptions in order to resist fading like so many other keyboards of its kind.
- Cherry MX Brown mechanical key switches
- Dedicated media controls
- Detailed design
- Old style keyboard with legible, laser etched key inscriptions
- While the keys found on the Das Keyboard 4 are indeed mechanical and tactile, they feature a soft touch function that provides a sort of bump halfway through the press. This is intentional and is designed to give gamers that tactile feel without providing the clicking sound. Some of us enjoy that sound, while others hate it, so this is not necessarily a downside, but it is something to consider before purchasing the Das Keyboard 4.
G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780R
The G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780R gaming keyboard delivers me a mechanical keyboard in the form of Cherry MX Blue key switches. These key switches feature a very short actuation distance of only 2 millimeters, making travel time for my fingers between the two of them virtually nothing. These keys also will perform up to an impressive 50 million keystrokes to ensure a long life span and a punctual gaming response.
The RIPJAWS KM780R features the ability to program every single key on its face. I can choose to assign an individual key a single action or spell for quick use in the game. I can also choose to instead assign complex macros to any number of keys so that I can perform intricate moves with the push of a button instead of having to hurry and press several in a row to achieve the same effect. The G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780R also allows me to provide independent backlighting and light patterns on each key for customization. Along with being able to program the keys, there are 6 dedicated macro keys that give me an even broader range of control.
Once I have chosen my actions, macros, and colors and assigned them to their locations on my keyboard, I never have to do it again unless I want to change things up. The G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780R allows me to set up three separate sets of profiles, or modes, as they call them. I can choose my macro, lighting and key configurations on the keyboard and set them up in a profile. Once I have chosen three different and unique configurations that I plan to use frequently, this gaming keyboard will remember it indefinitely. When I want to change the profiles again, it doesn’t take any time at all, so this really is a keyboard that allows virtually endless profile and macro compatibility.
Another awesome feature of the G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780R is the fact that it supports full N-Key rollover. This also allows me to execute any number of actions all at once on the G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780R, both with the keys and with the dedicated macro key section.
Finally, the G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780R comes with a full media display corner. This is a neat little set up that comes complete with full media control buttons such as play, pause, forward skip, and backward skip. It has a die-cast volume roller for simple access even while engaged in a game as well as integrated LED volume display. This is perfect for on-keyboard control over Skype calls, watching movies, listening to music and so much more.
- 100 Percent MX Cherry Blue Switches
- 2-millimeter actuation
- 6 dedicated macro keys on the left side of the keyboard
- Ability to create three dedicated, unique profiles
- Audible and tactile feedback mechanical keyboard
- Can outlast 50 million keystrokes to ensure a long life
- Fully programmable keys for macros
- Media control station with full controls including play, pause, stop, volume, and forward/backward skip
I have chosen the Corsair Gaming K95 as the winner of this review. This gaming keyboard allows me the ability to choose a color for every key which makes locating key binds a breeze. It has audible and tactile Cherry MX switches with wide actuation between keys. There are 18 dedicated macro keys on the left and a number of animated colors that cover the keyboard when I want it to. This is a great gaming keyboard for those who enjoy form as much as they enjoy function!
