Razer Cortex: Gamecaster Beta

The Razer Cortex: Gamecaster is part of Razer’s new software line, allowing people to stream games to platforms such as Twitch, Youtube(gaming) and Azubu. The game caster can stream up to 1080p at 60 frames per second.

The image above shows a preview of a player streaming Minecraft with the Gamecaster. Our personal review of the Beta so far is that the quality is fantastic. Streaming software usually has glitches in them causing streamers to sometimes lag out, or for the streams to show pixelated glitches, with the Gamecaster we haven’t seen any of this so far, and the quality has been close to perfect.

With the free service you can stream to the same quality pixel wise as the pro service. The maximum being 1080p, of which with the free service you will encounter a watermark when using a quality that is above 720p. The water mark is a little Razer logo in the bottom left, or bottom right of your stream. This may be off-putting for some streamers as this can cover vital information in a game, and ruin the viewer experience. The paid version allows you to stream at 1080p, 60 frames per second have no water mark on the stream. It also has some cool features such as a green screen effect for the webcam, custom overlay images, and a In-game twitch chat feature. Razer is definitely trying to pioneer the streaming industry, and come up with some new ideas, and that’s great to see.

Regardless of whether you use the free or paid service, you are entitled to 720p watermark free streaming, 30 frames per second, an Automatic be right back screen and In-stream webcam display.

The paid service costs $14.95 for a 3 month license, and $39.95 for a 1 year license. This shouldn’t be too expensive for full time streamers, as many of them make into the thousands, so this expense will be minor in comparison.

The Beta for the Gamecaster is currently closed, so you have to signup for early access and be accepted by the Razer team to be allowed to use their software. We have seen many big streamers using the service and many have positive reviews.
