A bluetooth speaker is an excellent way for anyone to enjoy their music at home or on the go. They are often resistant to water, and some of them can even resist sand, shock and dust with ease. Bluetooth speakers use wireless connections such as Bluetooth and Near Field Communication to play music, and some offer auxiliary cords for non-Bluetooth compatible devices. With ultra powerful batteries, they can be played for upwards of 20 hours depending on the speaker, and some can even be used as a power bank! I have put together several Bluetooth speaker reviews below for you to read before making your purchase and to assist you on your search for the best bluetooth speaker.
Best Bluetooth Speaker
UE BOOM 2 Phantom Wireless Mobile Bluetooth Speaker
Top Features of the UE BOOM 2 Phantom Wireless Mobile Bluetooth Speaker
Naturally, one of the most important things when it comes to choosing the best Bluetooth speaker for me is going to be the sound it produces. I don’t want something that is going to sound tinny or lackluster, especially when I want to take it with me outdoors like to the beach or when I want to bring it with me by the pool. In party settings, I don’t want to be the person who brought a terrible speaker and caused the party to suffer because of it. With the UE BOOM 2, I am getting at-home quality speakers but with the added benefit of bringing it around anywhere with me. The quality of the treble is amazing, providing me with nice even tones. The bass is impeccable. It is rich and deep, providing big booms and crashes that liven up the music. A good base system is something that is tricky to find with a lot of Bluetooth speakers, so I am very happy to report that this was a success with this speaker.
Goes Anywhere You Go
This means if things get wild at a pool party and it accidentally gets kicked in, I won’t have to worry about the health of my speaker. It can withstand being in the water up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter, which also makes me feel good about bringing it with me to the beach. Not only this, but I am able to walk around with it without fear of dropping it. This means taking it on hikes is worry free since it is totally shockproof. I don’t fear taking the UE BOOM 2 anywhere which is rare for me since I constantly worry over the state of my electronics and make sure to always treat my belongings carefully.
A neat feature about the UE BOOM 2 is the fact that it comes with voice control. I can do just about anything hands-free with this awesome speaker that I can’t do with a lot of the other Bluetooth speakers I have tried. The UE BOOM 2 comes with the ability to connect to the second generation of Echo Dot which is what gives me that hands-free control. Alexa is included, too, making it so I can turn her into my own personal DJ. With Alexa, I am able to ask for music to be played from TuneIn Radio, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, Pandora and Spotify with just my voice. This is great and stops me from quitting what I’m doing long enough to run over to my phone, laptop or music player long enough to rifle through the music, especially because I do not want to touch my other electronics in the event that I have wet hands from being outside and swimming or the like.
The UE BOOM 2 has another unique feature that makes it an even more efficient way to enjoy music at parties or outdoors, really anywhere where there is a social gathering that needs substantially loud music. I have yet to be disappointed by this speaker! The Bluetooth speaker here allows you to connect your unique UE BOOM 2 with any other UE speakers to create a feeling of true, three-dimensional surround sound. I am able to connect up to an impressive number of 50 speakers all at once with other people like my friends who also have these types of speakers. This lets me create immense, robust sound no matter where I go. When I hike with my friends, we can each connect the speakers so that we do not all have to huddle together in order for everyone to hear the music. This also makes party settings even better due to the ability to have several speakers going in different rooms of the house.
Long Lasting Music
Not only can the UE BOOM 2 connect to an impressive number of different UE speakers, it can also play for hours on end. This speaker has a powerful battery life on a full charge with more than an entire day of playtime waiting to happen. With a 15-hour battery life, I never have to worry about taking this out camping overnight where I won’t be able to get to a charger or other similar outdoor settings where I can’t access electricity. The UE BOOM 2 will stay on virtually until I say so. The Bluetooth wireless range on this speaker is also incredibly large and can span up to 100 feet, making it so that I am able to travel far away from the source of the music and wander a little bit if I want to with no problems.
- 100 foot Bluetooth reach
- 15 hour battery life
- Alexa voice control
- Connects to up to 50 other UE speakers
- Rich bass
- Waterproof up to one meter for 30 minutes
FUGOO Sport Portable Rugged Bluetooth Wireless Speaker
Top Features of the FUGOO Sport Portable Rugged Bluetooth Wireless Speaker
Can Withstand Any Weather
I don’t like to be stuck indoors all of the time when listening to music. I like to be active and go on adventures, but I don’t like leaving my music at home and I don’t like relying on my phone and its rather quiet speaker to provide music for me on the go. The FUGOO Sport makes it possible for me to confidently take it with me virtually anywhere that I go which has been a true lifesaver. It is 100 percent waterproof with a high incursion protection IP67 rating. This rating means that it can be submerged in water up to three feet for thirty minutes, so if I drop it in a pond or stream while hiking, I can retrieve it with no harm done. The FUGOO Sport is also resistant to sand meaning I can take it to the beach with me, no questions asked. I don’t have to worry about snow or mud, either, and fearing over it getting dusty on trails that I like to walk is a thing of the past.
A really neat feature about the FUGOO Sport is the fact that it is voice controlled. I like having hands free speakers when I’m out moving in nature or even in a social setting because it means that I don’t have to stop what I’m doing to fiddle around with the speaker, nor do I have to worry about getting it dirty from touching it. It comes with an omnidirectional microphone that has been built right in, letting me have super high quality, full-duplex speakerphone usage if I need it. If I get a call while using it, I don’t have to scramble for my phone. The voice control of the FUGOO Sport also means that I can use Google Now or Siri to call someone, find out the weather, set reminders or play any music that I like. It even has the option of adding a waterproof remote, meaning that whenever I am swimming, I can keep it poolside and change my music that way.
Authentic 360 Degree Sound
The FUGOO Sport is high quality and durable, perfect for taking anywhere and accomplishing anything, but that does not just mean that it is its exterior that is made in such a top quality way. This speaker has a seriously impressive total of six powerful speakers that point out in an optimized direction to ensure that sound is not just coming from one side of the speaker. A lot of speakers that I looked at only have four, so already this is a step up. The speakers include two passive radiators, two tweeters and two woofers, providing a symphony of sound from a small little speaker. These speakers are also tilted up at an eight-degree angle, making it so that I am able to hear the music perfectly. I don’t know how they do it, but I do know that I have never heard anything like the sound that comes out of this. There are six different drivers on four sides and the speaker is complete with 95dB SPL-A volume.
Impressively Long Battery Life
The FUGOO Sport also has a remarkably impressive battery. A lot of these Bluetooth speakers do last for quite some time, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one that comes with such a long life as the FUGOO Sport. This speaker can last for up to 40 whole hours when played at half volume. This might sound like some sort of compromise to you, but with its impressive inner workings, half volume is still incredibly loud. This speaker allows me to go hiking and camping for the weekend and listen to my music for pretty much as long as I want. I definitely don’t have to worry about this speaker dying on me which is wonderful to say the least. I feel confident that I can take this impressive little speaker with me on all of my adventures without disappointment, and so far, so good.
Finally, a great feature of the FUGOO Sport for those who like to stay active is the fact that I can attach this speaker to pretty much anything, no matter what I’m doing. This includes attaching it to my handlebars when I’m biking, attaching it to a boat railing, a tree, volleyball or tennis pole, rope or carabiner loop, tripod mounting socket, belt spring loop–seriously anything that is around me. I’m not sure I’ve found a single thing that the FUGOO Sport will not attach to.
- 40-hour battery life at 50 percent volume
- 6 speakers including two passive radiators, two tweeters and two woofers
- 95dB SPL-A volume.
- Multi-mount attaches this speaker to virtually anything
- Optional waterproof remote control
- Six drivers
- Snow, mud, shock, sand and dust proof; waterproof up to one meter for 30 minutes
- Voice activated with speakerphone, Siri and Google Now
- Price. The FUGOO Sport is another one of those sort of expensive Bluetooth speakers, but like the other ones, it is more than worth it. You get what you pay for with this speaker, which is quite a lot considering it can withstand shock, water, dust, sand, snow and mud. It can play for up to 40 hours without needing a charge and is full of speakers that deliver incredible 360-degree sound. What more could you want from a portable Bluetooth speaker? It is definitely the best Bluetooth speaker for the money.
Creative Muvo Mini Pocket-Sized Weather Resistant Bluetooth Speaker with NFC
Top Features of the Creative Muvo Mini Pocket-Sized Weather Resistant Bluetooth Speaker with NFC
Perhaps the coolest thing about the Creative Muvo Mini is the fact that it takes literally seconds to pair it up. Typically, I have to thumb through my phone or other Bluetooth device to find what I want to pair it with. With the Creative Muvo Mini, I don’t need to waste time doing that. It has near field communication, also known simply as NFC, which allows me to simply tap the back of my phone or other NFC capable device to the speaker itself and it pairs right away. This stops me from having to waste any time while out adventuring or wasting time in a social gathering fussing with my devices instead of enjoying the company of my friends. Of course, that is not to say that I can’t simply pair it using Bluetooth, as well. It is just much simpler to do it via near field communication and I love that about the Creative Muvo Mini.
Ultra Long Lasting and Durable
Since I do enjoy hiking so much, I need a speaker that is going to be able to keep up. This not only means that my speaker needs to be able to handle any sort of weather and terrain, but I need it to be able to play for a long period of time as well. With the Creative Muvo Mini, I get both of these things in one. This speaker can be played for up to 10 hours wirelessly once I have charged its built-in battery fully. This makes it perfect for taking on hiking trips that last all day or for taking with me to the beach or to the pool. It also makes the Creative Muvo Mini perfect for bringing along to parties at night, as I know that it will last the whole night through if I want it to. When I need to recharge this speaker, all that I have to do is plug it in to any standard USB cable which can pretty much be found anywhere, making it easy to keep this speaker going. Not only this, but this speaker has been IP66 certified, meaning that it can easily resist damage from general dust exposure as well as water, making it so that I don’t need to worry if it gets splashed like I usually have to do with Bluetooth speakers.
Vivid Sound, No Matter the Source
The Creative Muvo Mini delivers impressive audio no matter what. Regardless of whether I am beaming my music via Bluetooth or have it plugged into a device using its integrated 3.5-millimeter aux-in cord, the sound is impeccable and surprisingly loud and crisp thanks to its two full range micro-drivers. This is great for those instances where I am in a place without a Bluetooth enabled device or want to blast music from my laptop or old music player, making it so that I never have to worry if I am going to be able to play my music, no matter what sort of environment I may find myself in.
Another issue I find myself having with most Bluetooth speakers is the fact that they usually tend to neglect the bass aspect of the sound. Not the Creative Muvo Mini. This speaker has two oversized bass radiators on the front of the speaker that deliver rich, deep bass sounds that are surprising to hear from such a compact little electronic. Usually I am forced to listen to thin audio that just sounds tinny and underwhelming when I use a Bluetooth speaker because companies only seem to focus on the treble aspects of the devices.
Finally, the Creative Muvo Mini not only plays music at a strikingly clear, crisp and bold level, it allows me to use it as a speakerphone as well. Even when my music is going, if I have it set up for calls, it will ring and let me know making it so that I have access to my phone calls at all times, no matter what I am doing. I like this because if I am hiking with the speaker close at hand, I don’t have to dig around in my bag to find my phone and answer it. This speaker does all of the work for me. The Creative Muvo Mini comes with a built-in microphone that lets me answer the call and speak with clear sound on the other side. When I’m done talking on the phone, all I have to do is press a button and I’m back to my music just like that.
- 10 hour built in battery life; recharge with a USB cord
- 3.5 millimeter aux-in ability
- Bluetooth and near field communication (NFC) for virtually instant pairing
- Dust and water resistant
- Oversized bass radiators on the front of the speaker for immersive bass tones
- Speakerphone capabilities
- Auto-shutoff. One of the things that I have noticed about the Creative Muvo Mini is the fact that it will end up shutting itself off when I have not used it for a while. This is more of a heads up than a downside because I like this feature. This ensures that my battery life is being saved for as long as possible and not being wasted in idle mode.
UE MINI BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
Top Features of the UE MINI BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
Impressive Sound with Music and Phone Calls Alike
I like spending my money on things that are going to give me more functionalities than just one single usage. This is one of the reasons why I love the UE MINI BOOM. This speaker not only delivers impeccable sound for being such a compact little unit when I am using it to play music, the UE MINI BOOM also sounds exceptional when I am taking phone calls from it. This speaker comes with a built-in digital microphone that allows me to take my calls hands free. Whenever I get a call that comes in while my phone is attached to the speaker, the speaker will automatically pause my song and inform me of the call so that I can accept or deny it. When I am done talking on the phone, I can hang up using my cell phone or by using the UE MINI BOOM itself with the Bluetooth button that also serves as the call and hang up button.
Double Up on Sound
Another really great feature that the UE MINI BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is capable of is its ability to be paired up with another UE MINI BOOM. This is great for when I am at a party and I want to add more sound to the room when I am in a larger space that needs filling or simply when I am in a party setting or social gathering and need to amp up the volume. Through the Bluetooth connectivity, I am able to do this and it makes everything sound much better considering I can set the speakers in two corners of the room or even in different parts of the house in order to ensure that the music is reaching everyone at the same time. I also enjoy this feature when I am out hiking with friends because this means that we don’t have to worry about staying right on top of one another in order to enjoy the same sounds at the same time, letting us be able to do our own things.
Long Lasting Battery
The UE MINI BOOM also comes with a long battery live that allows me to take it with me on a number of different adventures. It can withstand an entire night of partying without giving out. It can also be taken camping with me overnight and be able to withstand the duration of our adventures until we go to sleep. This is because the integrated, rechargeable lithium-ion battery inside of the UE MINI BOOM can last for up to 10 hours total, even at full volume. I am able to keep doing whatever it is I’m doing without fear of it dying in the middle of my activities. In the event that the speaker does die, I am able to charge it with ease virtually anywhere thanks to its micro-USB charging ability. I can just plug it in at home or in the car and then I am all set for another long lasting music session.
50 Feet of Bluetooth Connecting
The UE MINI BOOM can connect any device to it as long as that device is within 50 feet of the speaker itself. This is around 50 percent farther of a carrying distance than a lot of other Bluetooth speakers that I have tried out, and it means that I really can place it in any room of the house or leave my phone in one place and walk around with the speaker if I want to. Not only that, but I can connect two devices to the UE MINI BOOM at one time and take turns playing from each different device. This lets everyone in the room get a chance to play their favorite songs and playlists without having to take the time to break out individual speakers.
One of the best features of the UE MINI BOOM is the ability to connect my devices using near field communication, also known as NFC. With near field communication, I can simply tap my phone or other NFC-enabled device against the speaker itself and watch it connect instantly. This saves me a lot of time that I would otherwise spend trying to connect it any other way. That said, it can still, of course, be connected the traditional way via Bluetooth.
- 10-hour battery life
- Can be used for music or as a speakerphone
- Can connect to another UE MINI BOOM
- Connects almost instantly using near field communication (NFC)
- Connects to Bluetooth devices up to 50 feet apart from the source
- High quality sound
- Recharges by way of a micro-USB charger
- Measuring battery life. With the UE MINI BOOM, I cannot tell what the battery life is at by looking at the speaker itself. instead, I have to check my phone with the app that the speaker comes with. I don’t mind this, though, as I am usually on my phone a lot anyway. If I am doing something where I am not using my phone, I still hop on it to change the songs or playlist I’m listening to quite frequently, so I am always able to just take the opportunity while doing so to check on the battery life that way. Don’t let such a small thing deter you from taking advantage of the amazing UE MINI BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker!
JBL Charge 3 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker
Top Features of the JBL Charge 3 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker
Take Turns Playing Music
A really neat feature about the JBL Charge 3 is the fact that it can connect to multiple different smartphones, tablets or other Bluetooth enabled music playing devices all at once. This speaker is a great way to allow multiple different instances of music to play, letting everyone in any setting, whether it be hiking through the woods or partying together, enjoy hearing their favorite songs. It works by cycling through the three allowable Bluetooth enabled devices, taking turns and playing the next bit of audio that is next up on the playlist so that everybody gets a turn. This saves not only a lot of bickering over what sort of music should be played next and also allows for a nice variety to be enjoyed by all.
Serves as a Power Bank
One of the coolest features about the JBL Charge 3 and something that makes it unique from any of the other Bluetooth speakers that I have tested out so far is the fact that this speaker is not only a powerful, beautifully sounding speaker, it serves as a charging bank, too. The JBL Charge 3 features an ultra powerful 6000 mAh built-in lithium-ion battery. Rechargeable, this battery can charge smartphones, tables, or any other electronic device that uses a universal USB charging port. This is great for keeping my devices powered up while camping or hiking so that I am never without my phone or my music. The robust battery of the JBL Charge 3 also allows for up to 20 hours of continuous playtime, letting me know that it will last the entire party through, and it will stay on during a weekend of camping if I turn it off when I am sleeping. This is definitely the best Bluetooth speaker in terms of sheer convenience and portability.
Not only can the JBL Charge 3 be taken with me on camping trips ensuring great sound and simultaneously serving as a charging bank for my electronics, it can quite literally go anywhere that I go without me having to worry about it getting ruined by the elements. Whether it is raining or snowing, or if I accidentally get it splashed at the pool or at the beach, I never have to worry about it becoming ruined. The JBL Charge 3 features an IPX7 waterproof rating. It also has a durable fabric that covers the speakers, so worrying about them ripping or shredding is another thing that I don’t have to concern myself with. Its rugged housing also gives me further peace of mind regarding its stability, if the waterproof rating wasn’t enough to soothe my worries.
While the JBL Charge 3 is perfect for playing music with impeccable quality, it can do so much more than that. Wherever I am, no matter what I am doing, taking phone calls on the JBL Charge 3 is a dream. This speaker allows for calls with sound that is as crystal clear as the music itself. All I have to do is press a button on the speaker’s body and it will answer and hang up my calls just like that. With the call active, I am permitted excellent sound quality that features absolutely no echoing. I love that feature because usually with wireless speakers like this, there is distortion or echoing, but I don’t experience that here. This is one of the better Bluetooth speakers for using with phone calls. Maybe I could even consider it the best.
Finally, the JBL Charge 3 is not just powerful on its own. It can be paired with a number of different JBL Charge 3 and produce a huge field of sound from all around. I can place these speakers in different corners of the room and have surround sound. I can also move them around the house whenever I am throwing a party and ensure that all rooms of the house, no matter where my guests are headed to, will be playing the same music in high definition. This is also wonderful for taking hiking with me because it means that my friends and I can each carry around our own speakers and hear it in perfect clarity without feeling the need to stick too close together to get the same effect.
- 6000 mAh battery inside of the speaker turns the speaker into a powerful charging bank for USB tablets and smartphones
- Connects with up to 3 Bluetooth devices at a time to take turns playing audio
- Crystal clear, no-echo speakerphone
- Durable exterior
- Durable fabric
- IPX7 waterproof design
- Multiple connections to fill more space with sound
- Ability to skip. One of the only things I could even begin to consider a downside about the JBL Charge 3 is the fact that there is no dedicated skip button. This is hardly a drawback but some may consider it one. Instead of a dedicated skip function, I have to press the play/pause button twice quickly, or I can skip from my phone or tablet. So, it’s still possible and very easy to do! Don’t let this throw you off.
Bose SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker
Top Features of the Bose SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker
With Bluetooth speakers, it can be hard to find ones that actually have that big, booming sound that is comparable to an at-home speaker. If I can’t find the right portable speaker that delivers music with impressive highs and midis and deep, rich bass tones, I might as well just be using the small, tinny, underwhelming speaker on my phone instead of spending money on a Bluetooth speaker. The audio that the Bose SoundLink Color delivers is downright outstanding. The vocals and treble are crisp and clear with absolutely no distortion whatsoever to speak of, which is rare. The bass comes through loud and present, making itself known without any sort of overpowering that often comes with the wrong Bluetooth speaker. To put it simply, the sound that the Bose SoundLink Color offers is totally full range and comes at such a loud volume that I am beginning to wonder how I ever survived on a smartphone speaker for so long to begin with.
Long Lasting Battery
Because I do enjoy a lot of outdoor activities, I need something that is not going to require me to sit at home or in my car near a charger in the event that I need to charge up my speaker again because it died before I was ready for it to. I want to enjoy my nights camping, my afternoons hiking, my mornings swimming in the river or my pool, and I want to have a soundtrack to do it to for hours on end. With the Bose SoundLink Color, I don’t have to worry about the battery dying on me. This Bluetooth speaker comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can be charged at home using a wall outlet, but it can also be charged at home or on the go using a standard USB power source, which makes the Bose SoundLink Color even more portable than it already was. This powerful battery gives me up to eight hours of nonstop playtime so that I can make the most out of my day without stopping to charge my speaker.
Easy to Connect
Another thing that I look for when choosing a new Bluetooth speaker is its ability to connect to my devices with ease. Part of the reason I am spending money on a speaker in the first place is because of its convenience. I don’t want to spend time searching and fumbling around for an auxiliary cord to listen to my music. I just want to tap and go, and with the Bose SoundLink Color, I can do just that. It pairs immediately with any Bluetooth device and even comes with a microphone so that I can use the voice prompts on the speaker to pair it. I never even have to touch the thing to get it to work. This speaker has a range of around 30 feet, making it so I can take it just about anywhere in my house without having to bring my phone or tablet with me just so I am able to continue listening to music. Not only this, but the Bose SoundLink Color remembers eight of my most recently connected devices so that I don’t have to sit and wait for the two devices to communicate every time I want to play music.
Two Players at Once
The Bose SoundLink Color also has the ability to pair up with two Bluetooth speakers at one time. This is an awesome feature when spending the day with a friend or hanging out in a party setting because once one device stops playing its music, the other device will pick up on it and play, giving everyone a chance to enjoy their favorite tunes at once on the Bose SoundLink Color.
Ready for Action
As I stated a moment ago, I really enjoy my active lifestyle and being able to take my speaker practically anywhere that I go. I don’t like to be weighed down figuratively or literally, and the Bose SoundLink Color frees me from both. The body of the speaker is super durable and I can just tell by looking at and holding it that I don’t need to worry about it falling apart with use. It is rounded and compact, making it simple to place in my backpack when I hike or really any other bag. The Bose SoundLink Color only weighs 1.25 pounds and has volume, power and source buttons that make using this Bluetooth speaker on the go an absolute dream.
- 8-hour battery life
- Can connect with up to two Bluetooth-enabled devices at once
- Connects with Bluetooth-enabled devices up to 30 feet away
- Deep bass and overall top quality, full-spectrum sound
- Rounded, 1.25 pound lightweight design
- Voice-prompted Bluetooth pairing
- Price. The Bose SoundLink Color is definitely one of the higher priced Bluetooth speakers out there. It isn’t the most expensive but it does fall into a mid-range price category, one that might off put future buyers. I think that the Bose SoundLink Color might actually be one of the better Bluetooth speakers for the money. Keep in mind that, with anything, you get what you pay for, and you definitely get what you pay for with this powerful portable speaker.
Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 Portable NFC Bluetooth Speaker with aptX/AAC
Top Features of the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 Portable NFC Bluetooth Speaker with aptX/AAC
Small but Powerful
While there are a number of great portable Bluetooth speakers out there, many of them are rather loud. Sure, they are portable in the literal sense where I can pick it up and take it with me pretty much anyway, but that doesn’t mean that they are very small. The Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 changes that. This speaker can fit in the palm of my hand with ease and is super lightweight, measuring around 20 percent smaller than other speakers on the market today. The Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 comes with a 5-driver system, two high-frequency drivers, two amps, two passive radiators, and finally a woofer. Everything inside of this speaker is powered by a super powerful 6000 mAh battery. Batteries like this are known for their robust, raw power and their long life. It also comes with a number of features that I’m excited to touch upon next.
An Array of Features
So, about those features. The Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 comes with a built in MP3 player first and foremost which is something that makes this speaker stand out from the rest. With the ability to insert an SD card, I am able to load all of my favorite songs and playlists onto the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 and have them all ready to play at the touch of a button, making it so that I don’t even have to connect it to Bluetooth if I don’t want to. It comes with a voice recorder as well that I can record sound with onto the insertable SD card. With its speakerphone capabilities, I am even able to take calls and record them onto that SD card as well. The 6000 mAh battery of the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 also serves as a power bank that I can charge my USB-powered devices such as my tablets and smartphone on, too. This turns it into a truly portable speaker because I can ensure that whatever Bluetooth device the speaker is playing from will always stay charged.
Simple Connectivity in Multiple Ways
Not only can the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 function as a Bluetooth speaker and an independent music player, I also have a variety of other ways that I can connect different audio sources. I want to talk about the near field communication choice first as this one takes the shortest amount of time to connect. Near field communication, or NFC, allows me to simply tap the source of the sound and the speaker together in order to pair them virtually instantly. No more thumbing through the Bluetooth connectivity screen to find the speaker. Just tap and go. I can also use a standard USB port to connect my device to a music player that does not support Bluetooth, and I can do the same with the ability to use an auxiliary cord, too! There is nothing that the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 cannot play from.
Two Ways to Listen
This feature is pretty cool. The Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 features two modes for me to play in. I can lay the speaker flat on its back and it fills the room with sound in a way like I’ve never heard before. This is great for party settings or other social gatherings in which I need it to be able to be heard everywhere over some noise. The other way I can play the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 is by propping it up and directing it in a certain direction, better for when I am staying in a more defined area like a pool or when I have it in my backpack on a hike.
Long Battery Life
Finally, the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 has a pretty long battery life when compared to other Bluetooth speakers. This speaker can go for up to 8 hours thanks to that incredible 6000 mAh lithium ion battery I was talking about. To charge it, I can use either a standard micro-USB port if I am traveling or just casually listening to music, or I can enjoy the benefits of a fast charger by using the included AC power adapter when I am at home.
- 5-driver system, two high-frequency drivers, two amps, two passive radiators and a woofer
- 8-hour battery life
- AC wall adapter provides quick charging
- Built in MP3 player
- Can fit in the palm
- Dual-orientation mode for directed or spread out sound
- Micro-USB charging
- Near field communication connection
- Powerful 6000 mAh battery can be used as a power bank
- SD Card insertion to record audio
- USB and Aux-in connection
- High price. Perhaps one of the more expensive items on this review list, the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 comes with seriously everything I could ask for in a Bluetooth speaker. It can do things such as record audio and play music from its independent, built in MP3 player that none other can, and it can also serve as a charging bank for my smartphones. All of this serves to make the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 more than worth every penny.

I chose the UE BOOM 2 as the winner of this review roundup because it has the longest Bluetooth reach I’ve seen of up to 100 feet. It also has the ability to play for an impressive 15 hours which is almost twice as long as other Bluetooth speakers. It can be submerged in three feet of water for up to half an hour, comes with Alexa voice control and can even connect with up to 50 UE speakers at once for great surround sound. This is the perfect Bluetooth speaker for those who are active and like long lasting, durable speakers.
Benefits of Buying a Bluetooth Speaker
– Portability. Bluetooth Speakers offer you a way to take everything that you love about listening to music with you wherever you go with your active lifestyle. This means bringing a high-quality sound system that produces better sound than your smartphone’s built-in speaker for greater enjoyment.
– Easy connectivity. With Bluetooth, all it takes is a quick tap of a button to have your music streaming loud and clear. Some Bluetooth Speakers offer near field communication, or NFC, which allows you to just tap your smartphone or tablet to the speaker for almost instantaneous connection.
– Multiple connection. With the right Bluetooth Speaker, you can also connect more than one device to the speaker, allowing the music to alternate between each device so you and your friends can take turn listening. Some speakers can connect with other speakers of its kind to create a huge wall of sound.
Factors to Consider Before Buying a Bluetooth Speaker
– Waterproof rating. While some Bluetooth speakers can be splash resistant, not all of them can resist a lot of water. Some speakers can withstand being submerged up to three feet for half an hour at a time, while some can’t even handle a little bit of dust getting on them.
– Near Field Communication. Consider getting a Bluetooth speaker that has near field communication. This allows faster connection than using Bluetooth itself.
– Battery life. Look for a Bluetooth speaker that has a minimum of 8 hours of battery life. Some can go as high as 15 or 20 hours, so judge how often you are out and about to see the kind of battery life you will need.
Tips on Buying the Best Bluetooth Speaker for You
– If you have a few devices you want to hook up to your speakers that don’t offer Bluetooth connectivity, opt for a Bluetooth speaker that also offers the ability to hook up an aux-in cord to solve this problem.
– Consider whether or not you need a built-in microphone for using your speaker as a speakerphone.
